Zabljak

Perched at the foot of Mount Durmitor, the village of Zabljak is an excellent base for exloring Durmitor and adjacent Tara Canyon, the park’s most convenient entry point. After a previous lack of suitable hotel development, these are now a cluster of modern, reasonably priced hotels on offer here aimed at promoting year-round tourism to the area. The main calling card remains outdoor sports such as hiking, mountain biking and, in winter, skiing – although Zabljak is an undeniably smaller and less modern ski resort compared to its neighbour Kolasin.

  • Weekend escapes in a rustic log cabin
  • Hike the trails along the glacial lakes of Durmitor National Park or around the Bobotov Kuk
  • A traditional meal of slow-roasted “lamb pecenje” at Crno Jezero, a restaurant in the National Park
  • Take the mountain road (open in summer only) to the Piva Lakes for boating and sightseeing
